Gotland University College

Gotland University College (Swedish: Högskolan på Gotland) is a university college (högskola) located in Visby on Gotland, Sweden.[1] The school is not a full university according to the official Swedish terminology since it is not authorized to issue PhD degrees. In December 2011 a "declaration of intrest" to merge into Uppsala University was signed by both vice-chancellors, aiming for completion during 2012[2][3].

The university college was established in 1998 and is thus one of the youngest institutions of higher education in Sweden. It has around 4 300 registered students, many of them part-time and distance students.[4] The main building which used to be an old Whiskey distillery is located in the central part of Visby, between the city marina and the Almedalen park. The Rindi Student Union, which organises the students, has its own building, called Rindi-borgen.
